Press release 01.02.2010 AITF 2010, the 9th Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair, will take place on 28-30 April in the Heydar Aliyev Sport and Exhibition Complex. The exhibition is organised by ITE Group Plc (UK) and its partner in the Caucasus, Iteca Caspian. Support is provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Last year, despite the downturn in the tourism industry worldwide, the AITF exhibition was successful and brought together over 100 companies. The success and importance of the exhibition were underlined by the 30% increase in the total exhibition area, the participation of 100 companies from 21 countries and the greater participation of the local tourism business, which included presentations of the tourism potential of many regions in Azerbaijan. At the exhibition, companies presented air travel services, bus tours, sports tourism, business tours, car rental services, eco-tourism and other types of tourism. A GPRS navigational system for tourists was demonstrated at the exhibition for the first time. Over 7000 visitors from 24 countries came to AITF 2009, which is a record for the exhibition. And that’s not all! On the basis of the number of companies that have confirmed their participation in AITF 2010, we are predicting growth of 30% compared to last year’s exhibition. This year, over 100 companies are expected to take part in the show. National stands, one of the main attractions of any travel exhibition, will feature prominently at AITF 2010, and include UAE, Greece, Turkey, Malaysia and Egypt. Exotic destinations such as Thailand, the Seychelles and Mauritius will be widely presented. Despite the economic crisis, they have retained their appeal. Swiss tour operators, one of which is the biggest tour operator in Europe for CIS countries, will present a huge selection of possibilities for different types of tourists. The Stavropol Region will have a stand at the exhibition for the first time, from which it will offer a range of health resort treatments. The accompanying programme of business events will include seminars, presentations and prize raffles. HOREX 2010, the 4th Caucasus International Hospitality Fair, will be held alongside AITF, and present hotel, restaurant and supermarket equipment; professional kitchen equipment; vending; fast food systems; hotel and restaurant furniture; and much more. This exhibition is particularly important for businessmen in Azerbaijan, as the State Committee for Standardisation, Metrology and Patents of the Republic of Azerbaijan has approved three standards for tourism services. These standards determine the types of hotels and accommodation facilities, the requirements imposed on them, and the list of services they provide. Consequently, the exhibition will be an excellent business platform for players in the hotel market, who will be able to decide on a development strategy for the year ahead. In addition, HOREX is the only place in the region where, each year, meetings take place between industry professionals, providing opportunities for establishing partnerships. AITF is the leading travel show in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region. Azerbaijan’s tourism industry is growing rapidly and overtaking that of neighbouring countries. According to a report by the World Economic Forum (The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report), in 2008 revenue from tourism in Azerbaijan amounted to at least $509 million. The AITF exhibition reflects Azerbaijan’s economic success, and provides a platform for establishing and strengthening contacts between international and Azerbaijani travel industry professionals.
